God Isn’t Finished
by Lisa Jackman, Events at EFC Southwest
It was the day before the major rain storm was about to hit Southern California. I was loading my car in the grocery store parking lot when a man holding a bucket with window washing supplies approached me and asked if I’d like my windows washed. I figured the wash was pointless with the looming rain, but I handed him a few dollars and turned to keep loading my car. Then he said something surprising: “What church do you go to?”
My first thought was “how does he know I go to church?” But, as I glanced down, I realized I was wearing my “Church to 5K” sweatshirt. “Rose Drive,” I said. He immediately replied, “Oh, I go to Crosspoint in Fullerton.” It took a second and then I realized I know Crosspoint. To be sure I said, “Who’s the pastor there?” He said, “Pastor Richard. He’s a really good guy. I really like it there. I’ve started singing with them.” “I know Richard Miller; he’s a friend of mine,” I said.
We went on to have a nice conversation about how he’s found a place where he belongs and God is using his gifts as a singer. He was once a professional singer (back up for K.C. and the Sunshine Band) but now he was using his gifts for the Lord. He said “God isn’t finished with me yet. Now I sing to bring him glory.”
As I pulled out of the parking lot it all dawned on me. The Church to 5K raises funds for New Church Development. Crosspoint is a church that was planted with funds raised for New Church Development. What an incredible gift to see a face truly affected by the efforts and generosity of so many. It’s not just about buildings and locations. It’s about people. People like Oliver that God isn’t finished with yet.
