Better than Okay

Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” (Exodus 33:22)
People ask me if I have a firm date for closing the door on this chapter of ministry. The answer is, “Yes. August 31, 2017.”
The next question is almost always, “Well, what are you going to do then?” That response is always the same, too. “I don’t know. Sandi and I felt pretty clearly that we were to finish up this assignment before we will know what’s next. It is almost as though the Lord was saying to us, ‘Talk to me about that on September 1.”
However, we do feel free to pray about our coming season, even though we don’t expect an answer until later. That release came at Pastors’ Retreat, during the prayer experience. As I was praying about life, I felt the Lord inviting/challenging me to pray a four-phrased prayer. It was this:
- Like Moses, show me your glory.
- Like Nehemiah, give me a people to serve.
- Like Caleb, give me a challenge to embrace.
- Like Elijah, let me find balance between rest and service.
I shared these phrases with Sandi. She replied, “Wow, the Lord impressed a similar prayer on my heart!” That sealed the deal. That has become the prayer of our heart for the future.
And, because the Lord gave us this prayer, we find ourselves confident in its answer. The outcome may look different than we imagine. But, we believe it will be answered. This has brought us comfort and peace.
I share this with you because some of you have asked us these questions. Thank you for caring enough to ask. I share this with you because we want to invite you to join us in this prayer. Thank you for caring enough to pray. I share this because (as far as I can tell) all of you are on our side. I share this with you because we want to assure you that we are okay.
And, somehow, even in the unknowns, God has given us a tiny glimpse of His glory. And honestly, for that foundational reason, we are not only okay, we are good!
